Independent, With a Proud Darts Heritage

Lakeside International Hotel is an easy, welcoming base for business travel, airport stays, or general Surrey exploring. Opened in 1988 by local entertainment legend Bob Potter OBE, our family-owned, 3-star hotel sticks to what matters: comfortable rooms, honest prices and a genuinely warm welcome.

Set across a peaceful 25-acre estate, our oversized lobby with its distinctive domed ceiling leads through to spacious bedrooms, many with private balconies overlooking Wharfenden Lake.

The Home of World Darts, Next Door

Our doors opened in 1988 for a very specific reason: to house the competitors and spectators flocking to the Lakeside Country Club next door, already well established as the home of the BDO World Championship since 1986. From 1988 onwards, we became part of the fabric of that tournament, with players and fans staying, eating and unwinding under our roof every January. The Country Club went on to host the BDO Worlds right through to 2019 and later welcomed the WDF World Championship back to Frimley Green in 2022.

It's fair to say those tournament weeks turned our bar into one of the most atmospheric spots in darts. Unlike most sports, where players are kept well away from spectators, ours has always been open to everyone. It wasn't unusual for a player eliminated on live television to walk straight off stage and order a pint alongside the fans who'd just been cheering them on.

That closeness helped make the 1992 final one for the history books: Phil Taylor's dramatic sudden-death leg victory over Mike Gregory, still widely regarded as one of the greatest darts matches ever played. Gregory missed six match darts at the double before Taylor held his nerve to take the title. It's the sort of match that gets replayed and talked about decades later, and we're proud that our little corner of Frimley Green was part of the backdrop.
